Ultra has continued to strengthen our collaboration with Team Forces (formerly called Team Ethos) which has led to an exciting opportunity for us to become a headline presenting partner for a trailblazer competition in the USA; the AFPST (Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team) Competition.
The competition was designed to be a forerunner for a new Winter Invictus Games and is supported by the Invictus Foundation. Veterans from Canada, the UK and USA were invited to compete and over 100 para / adaptive athletes were invited to take part in the pilot, held in Winter Park, Colorado, USA from 21 – 31 March 2022.
We are very pleased to have our very own President of Ultra Communications, Alain Cohen, represent Ultra at the opening ceremony and across key events. We are proud to be able to support an opportunity for the participating wounded veterans to reconnect with others and experience some friendly competition through snowsports.
COO AFPST Elizabeth Winfield shares her thoughts on the competition and what could be next;
‘It has created a whirlwind of emotions in me! Being able to provide this opportunity after so long for some of the most incredible humans I know has just been amazing. Everyone benefitted from the chance to be part of a team again, feel the connection to the most powerful environment and learn new skills as they push boundaries on and off the slopes. I saw courage and bravery, commitment and determination, and life-long friendships built. So proud of everyone involved.
With amazing Athletes like these in the charity you want to keep providing positive pathways through snowsport, for them and others, so they have the chance to benefit from the power of snowsport. We are now already thinking about this event next year, and like our Athletes we want to keep growing! We are looking at how we invite our International allies to the event to drive that competitive spirit and reconnect. It might even set the foundations for a Winter Invictus of the future!’
