"Having up-to-date information from multiple sources is a necessity, not a luxury in the modern battlespace. Operators need immediate, fused information from a broad range of sources to fully understand the battlefield, identify threats, and respond decisively."
In Command and Control (C2) centers, maintaining situational awareness is critical for making timely, accurate decisions, but the overwhelming flood of information from multiple sources can easily turn clarity into confusion. Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2) solutions are seen as a panacea to address the need to shorten the time from sensing to decision by those that need time sensitive and synthesized data in these critical roles.
Having up-to-date information from multiple sources is a necessity, not a luxury in the modern battlespace. Operators need immediate, fused information from a broad range of sources to fully understand the battlefield, identify threats, and respond decisively.
CJADC2 solutions, particularly those that leverage ADSI®, are designed to meet this need. By integrating and amplifying information from a wide array of datalinks and communication protocols, ADSI enables an integrated, global, multi-domain common operational picture. This integration includes not just U.S. assets but also coalition partners, allowing for seamless collaboration across theaters of operation.
ADSI ensures that all relevant information is available at the right time and place. For instance, if a surface or space sensor detects adversary activity, this information can be instantaneously shared with air and naval units and others, facilitating a coordinated response.
ADSI's open architecture empowers CJADC2 users by seamlessly integrating with their existing front-end user interfaces, offering unparalleled flexibility and customization. As a powerful backend data source, ADSI provides all the critical data needed while allowing users to maintain the front-end systems they are already trained to use, ensuring smooth mission operations. Additionally, ADSI integrates directly with TAK, ensuring that both ATAK and WinTAK devices deliver the richest, most comprehensive data to end users in the field. This approach enhances situational awareness, reduces training costs, and maximizes operational effectiveness by delivering mission-critical data in real time.
This isn’t just theory for us at Ultra I&C – It’s operational reality. During Red Flag 2021, Ultra I&C integrated a containerized ADSI aboard MQ-9s – and it proved to be a game-changer in battlefield awareness and coordination.
During the live flight missions, F-35 pilots were able to see MQ-9s in flight on their heads-up displays. But beyond just seeing the MQ-9 as an airborne track, the containerized ADSI in the MQ-9 enabled it to transmit target data directly from its onboard camera. ADSI converted the MQ-9 video feed into Link-16 messages and shared it with platforms across the Link-16 network, providing real-time positional data as well as and actionable intelligence to all participants, including airborne F-35s.
This engagement extended the range of the Link-16 network to see and access target data while also allowing the MQ-9 to actively contribute to the real-time common operational picture (COP).
In addition, through ADSI, MQ-9s were now capable of being tasked with additional ISR missions by any Command and Control (C2) unit in the network, enhancing its flexibility in a dynamic operational environment.
ADSI is more than just a gateway or a data translator; it’s a force multiplier. With its extensive data library, ADSI integrates and translates multiple coalition partner data sets. Its use in over 35 countries has enabled multi-platform, multi-state, and multi-theater common operating pictures across the globe. For nearly two decades, ADSI has been the critical link connecting sensors and platforms, empowering decision-makers in regions from the Pacific to the Middle East and Asia.
Despite the critical importance of real-time data, frustrations still exist due to inadequate ways to easily integrate data from different sources. The sheer volume of information and the disparate nature of data systems can lead to bottlenecks, delays, and miscommunications, hampering operational effectiveness. As we look to next generation warfare, with collaborative combat aircraft and network enabled weapons, the battlespace will only grow more complex and the need to track and manage assets will increase.
ADSI directly addresses these needs providing a unified solution from the data set to command and control. With proven best-in-class datalink translation and the largest number of datalinks available in a single library, ADSI is the enabler for seamless interoperability and enhanced mission effectiveness.
